Three Steps of Change
You say, “I want to change, but I just can’t.” Try using God’s Three Steps for Change found in Ephesians 4:22-24. Change will not take place unless all three steps are followed.
Step 1-Put Off vs. 22 Put off the idols found in I John 2:15-17. Every idol we worship in our lives is wrapped up in these verses.
Lust of the flesh-Moral problems-I desire pleasure more than I am concerned with God’s work or my testimony.
Lust of the eyes-Financial problems- I see and want more than I can afford.
Pride of Life-Conflicts with family members, friends, or co-workers. I think I am always right in various situations.
.
Step 2-Renew my mind vs. 23-How do I do this? Turn off the TV. Listen to Godly music. Get into God’s word. Read good Christian literature.
Step 3-Put on-vs. 24-What do I put on? Put on a behavior like Jesus. Your primary desire is to be like Him.
1. I will begin to serve others in love(including those I don’t like).
2. I will moment by moment confess my sins to God and to others for the sins that I committed against them.
3. I will ask God to fill me with His Spirit.
4. I will pray for myself and others.
5. I will do more listening than speaking.
6. I will be a loving leader and a respectful follower.
7. I will endeavor to be a peacemaker.
8. I will proclaim the good news about Jesus Christ.
